Herons Bonsai is a specialist bonsai nursery in Surrey, England, founded by Dawn and Peter Chan in 1986. Located on an extensive seven-and-a-half-acre landscaped site, the nursery is dedicated entirely to bonsai and attracts enthusiasts and visitors from the United Kingdom and around the world. Herons grows, develops, trains and cares for a wide range of indoor and outdoor bonsai, from young starter trees and field-grown material to refined specimen trees for experienced collectors. The nursery is also particularly known for Japanese maples and maintains a large selection of Acer varieties alongside pines, junipers, azaleas and many other species used for bonsai. In addition to trees, Herons supplies bonsai pots, soils, tools, fertilisers, accessories and other specialist materials through its nursery and online shop. Education is an important part of its activities, with practical bonsai workshops and classes for different experience levels as well as instructional material and online tutorials. Founder Peter Chan is an internationally recognised bonsai practitioner, author and educator who has promoted bonsai in Britain for decades and has received numerous Royal Horticultural Society and Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medals. Herons Bonsai also supports the public appreciation of bonsai through its long-standing involvement with the bonsai collection at RHS Garden Wisley. Beyond bonsai cultivation, the organization has experience in Japanese garden design and construction and provides trees for exhibitions, displays, film productions and promotional projects.
