History:
Bonsai-Freunde Kreis Heinsberg e.V. traces its origins back to December 1989, when a group of bonsai enthusiasts from Hückelhoven and the surrounding area came together and later founded the “Bonsai Arbeitskreis Kreis Heinsberg”.
The group held its first exhibition in 1991 in Hückelhoven-Kleingladbach, presenting around 120 bonsai. In January 2011, the organization was officially registered as “Bonsai-Arbeitskreis-Hückelhoven e.V.”. Its 2014 exhibition marked the association’s 25th anniversary and featured bonsai styling demonstrations, a raffle, video presentations and other activities.
In 2019, the association celebrated its 30th anniversary with an exhibition organized together with its partner association from the Netherlands, “Bonsai Vereniging Noord en Midden Limburg”. After a pandemic-related break, the next exhibition took place in 2023.
Since April 2024, the association has operated under the name “Bonsai-Freunde Kreis Heinsberg e.V.”. Its 2024 exhibition was held at the Veolia Industriepark Oberbruch, where the association presented its bonsai and related activities to a record number of visitors.
Activities:
Members meet twice a month, approximately every two weeks, to work on their bonsai together and exchange knowledge, experience and information. Guests who would like to become familiar with the association and bonsai are also welcome.
Visits to bonsai exhibitions, excursions and participation in workshops complement the association’s regular activities.
Mission:
The association’s aim is to promote the art of bonsai, support the development, design and care of bonsai trees, expand knowledge about bonsai and share that knowledge with others.
Continuing education for members and public exhibitions are an important part of this mission.
